tilt tests

Tilt testing is a test done to investigate the cause blackouts. It is done by lying flat on a specially designed bed whilst your heart rate and blood pressure are being monitored regularly.

The second phase of the test is to change your position from a lying position, quickly to a vertical position whilst being secured safely to the bed. A medication given under then tongue may then be given to make the blood vessels relax.

The idea behind the test is to try and reproduce symptoms that are familiar to people when they experience their blackouts. It gives useful information as to the reason for blackouts as there are a number of causes of blackouts that can be treated.
