atrial flutter

Atrial flutter is a rhythm that is a result of a more regular circuit in the upper chamber of the heart, the atrium, that can cause the heart to beat rapidly. Like AF, it increases the risk of stroke and so blood thinners (anticoagulants) are normally recommended. Often, patients can have both AF and atrial flutter.

Atrial flutter can sometimes be very difficult to control with medications alone. Thankfully, catheter ablation is very successful and can provide a durable long-term cure for this particular heart rhythm problem.
